Match Report | Wet weather delayed the start as Brentwood took on South Woodford at the OCG. Brentwood won the toss and batted first in this match reduced to 40 overs a side. Sach fell first ball of the second over for 1, but Kieran Emmanuel was batting like it was a 20 over game He hit a breezy 33 off 21 deliveries, before a dismissal born of overconfidence, spooning a simple catch. Boon Junior came and went for a duck leaving number 5 Bell at the crease with Douggie Maxwell. Both batted sensibly putting on 63 for the fourth wicket before Douggie fell for 42 from 48 deliveries. Bell was joined by Richard Horswill who put on a stand of 91 before Horswill was bowled by first team bowler Shirt returning from injury, falling 3 runs short of a half century. Welham came and went for a duck with the score on 209. With overs running out Bell decided to bat aggressively. He hit 22 off one over as he and Paul Humphries put on a further 38 runs before the rain became too heavy with 7 balls of the Brentwood innings to come. Humphries finished not out on 4, with Bell desperate to continue on 96 not out from 91 deliveries. Heavy rain and thunderstorms lead to a pleasant evening in the bar watching England win the ODI series, but no further play was possible at the OCG. Chelmsford and Wanstead were also defeated by the weather, with Old Southendians away at the seaside as a treat to come for next Saturday. |
