Shenfield won the toss in this match and decided to bowl first on a warm, sunny morning.
We fielded a team with a mixture of some experienced players, and those playing their first hardball match of the season and everyone applied themselves admirably.
Fraser Forbes bowled and batted solidly and Parth Patel did well on his debut as did Max Peters in his first league match, all gaining valuable experience.
We had discussed before hand the need to play the straight ball with a straight bat and all players worked hard at this and the running between the wickets shows improvement with every match.
Shenfield bowled very straight and fielded well, making it hard for us to get the ball away and find the gaps in the field, so we didn't get to the score that our batting and stroke play quite deserved. The pick of our batsmen was Zach Pachakayala who played the good ball well and hit the bad ball to the boundary with good confident strokes.
Our fielding and bowling was very good, taking a total of six wickets, with two apiece for Joshua Knightbridge and William Bailey and one each for Braden Doyle, George Grevatt, whose wicket came through a great catch from Braden. George Mortlock kept wicket very well and two maiden overs from Dhuv Gupta kept us in contention, but shenfield took the match away from us with their third pair who batted very well who scored 32 in their four overs.
It was very encouraging to see some good fielding, with everyone trying to work at walking in and attack the ball, getting a good throw into the wicket keeper and good backing up if the throw went past the keeper or bowler.
Even though we lost the match, there were loads of positives to take from the match and the need now to work on hitting the wide ball hard to get those all important boundaries.
