An excellent game of cricket won on the last ball by Springfield. Brentwood fielded a mixed Chargers & Spitfires side for this frindly fixture. Put into bat by Springfield, Adam Thain (49) and Ewan Smith (42) put together an excellent opening partnership of 90 in 12 overs. Tom Wingrove (20*) also batted well as Brentwood finished their 20 overs on 141-4. After a good opening spell from Luke Ranns (1-12) and Harry McNair (1-13), Springfield scored quickly to get back up towards the required rate. Ten runs were required from the final 2 overs and captain Ed Abbott bowled superbly only conceding 3 runs. The final over was to be bowled by Tom Wingrove with 7 required. 2 dots balls were followed by a boundary, 3 runs from 3 balls, another dot ball. The fifth ball saw the batsman attempt to run a quick single but an overthrow gave them 2 runs to bring the scores level. The final ball was despatched to the boundary as Springfield won an exciting game by 5 wickets. |
