Match Report

After the unfortunate loss last week, the U13’s had another challenge ahead. They played Fives and Heronians and after they won the Peter Coe last season, we were expecting a close match.  Teddy Mortlock won the toss and elected to bowl, on a wet and unforgiving surface. He opened the bowling with pace and accuracy, after 4 overs Teddy’s economy was only 2.2, sadly taking no wickets. Max Gunn also opened the bowling with another great performance, taking 2 wickets and had an economy of 3. Brentwood’s bowling shattered Fives’ batting attack and eventually finished off with James Jensen getting an LBW which meant he had figures of 3 overs, 2 maidens, 3 runs and 2 wickets. Finally, the person who kept extremely well, was Daniel Peakall and who saved many byes during the innings. We finished up bowling the opposition out for 55 after 22 overs, a small total, which would be easily caught.

The two openers Andrew Walters and Alex Berry came out to bat with one thought in their mind, to get this over as quickly as possible. They got off to a great start with Alex making 7 runs off just 10 balls which then meant that Max Gunn was in. Andrew Walters stayed in with a progressively strong innings and eventually scored 21 off of 26 balls. Max was caught at point after making 12 runs. This left Daniel and Teddy to finish the game off with Daniel making 3 off 2 and Teddy playing the final ball to get 8 off 5, a great innings considering we made it in 9.4 overs.

As a whole all the boys had a part to play with their excellent fielding and encouragement and this should put them in good stead for the rest of the season.
