Match Report

A good all-round team performance saw Brentwood cruise through the first round of the Royal London Club Championship - the elite competition for cricket clubs within England and Wales.

Upon winning the toss and electing to bat given the potential for rain later in the day, Brentwood's opening bowling partnership of Tom Moore and Max Osborne gave a stern working over of North London's batsmen and after 10 overs the score had only crept to 20-1.

Even following their spell, fellow seamer Aaron West and Joe Buttleman kept up the pressure. It was only following the introduction of spin that the shackles were removed. Even then, Charlie Griffiths picked up wickets at crucial times.

The re-introduction of Tom Moore got control back for Brentwood, who cannot have beaten the bat more and ended up wicketless, although his nine over cost just 16 runs. Max Osborne's clever death bowling continued to stifle any late flurries as North London ended their innings on 172.

On a wicket that showed signs of lateral movement and was, at times, tricky to score on, that could have been a tricky chase. Jon Walford calmed the majority of any nerves with some brutal hitting in his 36 from only 24 balls. However, a brief misapprehension that the removal of captaincy also turned him into an elite sprinter proved wrong as his innings was ended with a run out.

However, Tom Oakley and Aaron West continued where they had left off the previous day with a 50 run partnership in just 6 overs. Oakley fell for 52 from just 38 deliveries.

West brought up his second consecutive 50 in only 43 balls as he saw Brentwood's innings home with two fifths of the innings remaining.
