Match Report

Noak Hill Taverner’s - V - Brentwood Victorian’s 20th April 2014

On an overcast rain soaked day, the Victorians tuned up at Noak Hill to play the Taverner’s not knowing if there would be a game or not. Much to our surprise, the Taverner’s were keen for a game so a T20 match was agreed.

The Vic’s skipper once again lost the toss but was amazed when told to bat first.

Jon Hilliard and Billy Hull opened the batting - quickly scoring 27 runs in the first two overs before Hilliard’s light was prematurely extinguished for 7 runs in the third over. This brought Mark Beecheno to the crease who, in contrast to his quick-fire 23 the week before, seemed to think that we were playing a test match and proceeded to bat out the remaining 17 overs for just 28 runs. Just as well then that Billy Hull was at the other end. Billy was run out in the 19th over after scoring 120 (maiden ton), his first 50 coming off just 25 balls. The Vic’s finished their innings on 168 for the loss of 2 wickets

After a cracking tea, the Vic’s took to the field in conditions that had deteriorated drastically. Dean Ahmad and Sam Green opened the bowling - quickly taking early wickets. Ahmad finished with figures of 4 overs 2 wickets for 14 runs. Rob Hull (standing in for the mysteriously absent O’Brien) produced a brilliant spell to finish with figures of 4 overs 1 maiden 2 wickets for 6 runs. Richard Horswill carried on from his impressive 1st game with 4 overs 1 maiden 1 wicket for 10 runs. Sam Green and Dave Balroop also chipped in with a wicket each. Balroop will surely have to thank Alford for his wicket as, despite the slippery conditions, he held a stunning low diving one handed catch that was hit so hard most players would not even have seen it let alone caught it!

The Taverner’s finished their 20 over on 92

The Victorian’s won by 76 runs.
