2007 Junior Cricket Tournament

Dear Club Membership, Just to let everyone know that the U9's tournament went really well, the sun was shining, the boys were keen, the parents were even keener, and Shenfield Cricket Club were great hosts. We started our first game against Shenfield, which was all rather trial and error, as I did not really know the standard of each individual player. We played well, but lost, Shenfield were quite strong. We then played Upminster who were by far the strongest team in the competition, having a better idea of our potential I slightly changed the team around and after our first game of only scoring 7, we ended up scoring 25 , but lost. We then played Hutton, again slightly changing the team, and beat them, we scored 39 runs. I think the squad learnt a great deal and improved after every game. Beware Shenfield, Upminster and Hutton the boys from Brentwood will be back! I would like to congratulate all the boys for playing and for their excellent behaviour. I would like to thank Paul Kimble for umpiring and all the dads who helped on the day, warming them up, and shouting from the sidelines. The boys were so keen, and were asking me after every game, when can we play expect to play more competitive matches. Yes we can do as many games as they like, but I do need helpers, in regard to umpiring, scoring and possibly taking the team on the day, if I can not be there. So please volunteer. The boys want to play more competitive cricket, which is great for them as long as they all have the full equipment, which would include a helmet, gloves, box, cricket pads. Hopefully the colts section might be able to supply club helmets and pads, in the future, perhaps through some fund raising or a grant. Finally thanks to the parents who took photos, please send them to me and they will go on the Brentwood Cricket Club website. The Essex Chronicle was there, so hopefully there will be a report and photos in the next addition. Listed are the boys that played: Matthew Bell James Berry Andrew Byrne William Hart Toby Tierney Aaron Doyle Billy Warby Daniel Sarkar Edward Abbott Julian Whetstone Kieran Short Harry Kimble Reserve - Lewis Cowling Thanks again.
