1999 Champagne Moment: Stuart Fomes (BCC Vs The Mote CC).
I thought I'd only ever played a couple of games for the Currants' during my entire Brentwood CC career but finding the team photograph from this particular game (vs The Mote CC) I was somewhat surprised to spy yours truly in the front row and in somewhat illustrious company (Mouse must have been very short that day!): the young Cocklin brothers; Dave Cantor and Phil Howlett - two of the nicest guys to pull on a Brentwood CC shirt; Paul Lattimore - great wit and mimic and useful left arm quick; Stuart Fomes - terrific player and what a knock that day at the Mote - with great support from Justin Kenny; Ash Patel - useful bowler in his day - 'Brimful'; a very young Paul Howlett and Ian Belchamber. For some reason I decided to take my camera to this particular away game. Fortuitous decision as I witnessed, and subsequently managed to capture on film, one of the best knocks I had ever witnessed by a BCC batsman. The memory is not what it was but I recall a damp and cold day down in Kent. The year was 1999 (checking the Club archives Fomesy won Performance of the Year that year - one assumes for this particular knock) Stuart got together with BCC's overseas player - Justin Kenny - and literally smote it to all parts of the Mote!
