IN MEMORIAM: Joe Surtees 1989-2012
Joe Surtees Memorial Bench
Brentwood Cricket Club played host to the Joe Surtees Memorial Cricket Match on Sunday 25th August 2013, following Joe's sudden passing from Leukaemia in 2012, aged just 22. Joe played his cricket from a young age at Brentwood, representing the Club at all age groups and all levels of adult cricket. A popular individual, team player and exceptional all-round cricketer, his death is a great loss to the Club and all those who knew him.
The match, played between a side made up of Joe’s former team-mates and a Brentwood Victorians XI was a great success and raised over £600 for Leukaemia care, aswell as celebrating the life of a talented cricketer and close friend to many.
In a tight affair, Brentwood Victorians won the match following a well-constructed run chase in difficult conditions. A big thank you to all of the individuals whose efforts made the day possible.
A special thanks to Brentwood Cricket Club for their support and providing a playable pitch in spite of the poor weather conditions leading up to the day. The event will become an annual fixture and plans are already underway for a bigger event next year.
