Another 100% day for Brentwood CC

Posted by Ken Hobbs on 18 July 2015

Once again all Brentwood teams won their matches on Saturday and this week it was five wins out of five as for the first time this season we were able to field a 5th XI.

The 1st XI gained revenge for a heavy defeat by Colchester earlier in the season with a comfortable win at the Old County Ground. Batting first, Brentwood sprung a surprise when Charlie Griffiths was promoted to open the batting and he got his team off to a flying start, hitting four sixes in an innings of 55 from 48 balls. Guy Balmford contributed 23 runs, Jon Walford 46, and Tom Oakley made a major contribution of 75 while Peter Younghusband hit a fluent 43 in the latter stages as Brentwood finished on 292-7 from their 50 overs.

Kemsley Robb began the Colchester reply with quick-fire 47 which included 44 in boundaries but after Jake Wickham found the outside edge to dismiss him caught behind by James Redwood, the visitors reply faltered. Only Julian Russell (41) and Tom Ullyott (39) made significant scores in a total of 176 all out. Wickham took 2-42, Griffiths 1-34, Oakley 1-26, Younghusband 2-21, Ian Belchamber 3-26, Paul Humphries 1-22, while Redwood finished with five victims behind the stumps. For the full scorecard on Play-Cricket go to the following link:

The 2nd XI continued their fine run with another win, away to Colchester. In Brentwood's total of 270-6 in their 45 overs, Kieran Emmanuel scored 54, Tom Phillippe 80 and Richard Walford 52. It was just enough for a 9-run victory as Colchester replied with 261-7, Anthony Giles taking three wickets. For the full scorecard on Play-Cricket go to the following link:

The 3rd XI continued their improved form with another win, this time at local rivals Hutton. The home team were dismissed for 127, Jon Hilliard taking 4-36, Peter Bainbridge 3-37 and Chris Boon Sr. 3-11. The 3rds then knocked off the runs for a loss of five wickets, Sonny Willis making 25, Ben Sach 28, Ben Cocklin 17 and Sam Dawes 34, For the full scorecard on Play-Cricket go to the following link:

The 4th XI also had a five-wicket win, over Horndon-on-the-Hill. Horndon posted 212-4 but the target was achieved with Andy Maxwell top-scoring with 69 and further runs from Barry Brooks, 47, Luke Brailey 20, Ryan Pocock 27 and Jack Payne 13 not out. For the full scorecard on Play-Cricket go to the following link:

The 5th XI met Old Chelmsfordians 5th XI in a friendly match staged at Gt. & Lt. Warley CC. Our 5ths posted an impressive total of 306 with youngsters James Bainbridge (79), Charlie Bacon (49), Connor Harrington (29) and Isaac Raj (50) all in the runs. OCs made a good reply but were dismissed off the last ball for 275, Isaac Raj taking four wickets and James Jensen, Theo Bainbridge and Harrington a wicket apiece.
