Brentwood 1st team made it eight successive Hambro Foundation Premier League wins when they defeated Hadleigh & Thundersley by 68 runs at the Old County Ground on Saturday.
Batting first on a very good pitch, all the Brentwood top four scored freely with skipper Aaron West making 43, fellow opener Ed Ballard 45, and Tom Oakley 64 but it was Chris Green’s 109 that was the highlight, an innings that included eight 4s and six 6s.
In reply, Hadleigh made 268-7 and never seriously threatened to win the match despite Sam Handley’s 72 and veteran Roy Smith’s 86. The result saw Brentwood overtake Hadleigh in the league table and reclaim 2nd position.
Sunday 14th August
On Sunday the 1st team hosted Surrey club Spencer in the semi-final of the Conference Cup and a close match saw Brentwood win by 16 runs to reach the final which will be against Camberley with the match to be played on Saturday 17th September at Harefield CC.
The in-form Tom Oakley was Brentwood’s star man with an innings of 111. He was well supported by Richard Horswill, 36, as Brentwood posted a total of 224-9 from 40 overs. When Spencer replied Harry Phillips took a wicket in the first over but a second-wicket stand between Toby Pratt and George Roberts put Spencer in control until Jack Levy broke through taking three quick wickets in the space of two overs. At 155-4 the visitors were still in the game but they lost three quick wickets again and despite 34 from Ollie Bocking they fell short with Harry Phillips, Aaron West and Harri Smith each taking two wickets.
