The 1st XI went out of the Royal London National Club Championship after a defeat by a strong Blackheath side in the 5th round at the Old County Ground on Sunday.
Brentwood were bowled out for just 97 in 36.3 overs, which was never likely to be enough runs despite reducing the visitors to 58-4 at one point. Former Brentwood player Jahid Ahmed had got the Blackheath innings off to a good start in an opening stand of 46 before his partner Chris Willetts was run out by Matt Bell for 7. Ahmed then fell to Charlie Griffiths for 40. Griffiths and Jake Wickham then picked up a wicket apiece but Brentwood could not make any further inroads and Warren Lee (16 not out) and Mahi Mahfuzul (24 not out) guided the Kent side home with no further loss of wickets.
Earlier, the Brentwood innings had never got going. Guy Balmford impressed early on with 27 but only Aaron West, Tom Phillipe, James Redwood and Bell made it into double figures in the face of some fine bowling by Ahmed (2-20), Tanweer Sikandar (3-10) and James Hands (3-8).
