Brentwood Team takes part in Maldon Cricket week
Posted by Gill Bell on 26 July 2013
Due to a late cancellation by Maldon's opposition Brentwood were invited to play a 35 over game with a selection of U14,U13 and U12s
Maldon batted first and, on a damp wicket, were in trouble at 19 for 5 with Jack Payne having figures of 3 overs 3 wickets for 0.
But after an exceptional lunch, cottage pie and lashings of Gateaux, Maldon recovered to 87 off their 35 overs which was a reasonable score on a wet pitch
This was due to a 9th wicket stand of 33 between Plumb and Bowen
Dean Ahmed and Tom Ballington, who was guesting for us from Shenfield due to low player availability, started well but cautiously, due to the conditions, Tom was out first then Dean for 22.
Luke Brailey made a useful 17, and after a few more wickets went down, George Bull and Sajan Sra wrapped up the game.
Jennings 3 overs 2 wickets 9 runs was the pick of the Maldon bowlers.
A quick trip to the clubhouse by the parents, after the game, to sample some of Maldons CC selection of fine ales, then the trip home.
A great game of cricket played in the right attitude. Maldon were fantastic hosts, and the Brentwood boys thoroughly enjoyed the day and atmosphere.
Let's hope their opposition cry off next year!!!
