                           Brentwood Cricket Club's David Hammond

David Hammond - regular Saturday 1st XI player and the Club's resident Coach - achieved that rarest of cricketing feats in the last 16 of the Dukes Essex League T20 when he scored six 6s in a single over.

David ended up scoring a whopping 170 in just 59 balls in Brentwood’s total of 278-2 from their 20 overs, scoring an incredible 17 6s in the innings, along with his eight 4s.

David, who has played for both Essex and Kent 2nd XIs hit his remarkable feat of 36 runs in the 13th over – certainly unlucky for John Elliott, the unfortunate Leigh on Sea left arm spinner who could do nothing to prevent David's classy hitting.

His first five sixes were almost identical – perfect on drives for which long on could only watch as the ball sailed over his head. His final six peppered the gathering throngs who were watching in amazement at mid-wicket.

And it was no mean feat given that the boundary he was targeting at one of Essex’s former out grounds in Brentwood, was a good 70 metre hit; in fact one hit ended up in the tennis courts behind the pavilion – at least a 90 metre hit.

At the other end throughout David's innings was 2013 season debutant Gareth James who managed, what would ordinarily be considered a decent T20 innings of 82 in 57 balls, but was absolutely left in David’s shadows, and never even managed to cross the boundary on the full himself.

In the end, Brentwood won the match by 147 runs to move into the quarter finals of the Essex competition. Last year, Brentwood managed to get to the last eight of the National T20 competition and will be hoping if David and his teammates can continue in a similar vein of form then maybe they can go a step further and have an appearance on Sky Sports in 2013.

David's knock helped the Club reach Dukes T20 Finals Day which takes place this coming Sunday July 28th at Billericay Cricket Club.  Brentwood Buccaneers play the first semi-final against Ardleigh Green Cricket Club commencing at 1100hrs.
