BRENTWOOD 83-8
BENTLEY 84-4
Brentwood lost the toss and were put in to bat on a heavy overcast morning. A tenuous and determined Bentley bowling attack, assisted by the weather conditions made early inroads, knocking down Brentwood’s top 5 batsman for 15 runs. With a heavy defeat looming, Henry Deacon walked to the crease to join Max Scourfield. These two batsman started the rebuild, with Max bowled by an unplayable ball with the score on 32. Our next batsman Jack Cooper entered the fray and the charge was on!
Jack and Henry remained at the crease for the remainder of the innings scoring 26 and 23 respectively and, more importantly, boosting the inning to 83 runs – this was an unthinkable target at 15-5 and these two batman’s played incredibly well. For the last two overs of the innings Bentley changed their fielding tactics from offensive to defensive to stop Brentwood picking off the fours.
With a Target of 83 to defend the Brentwood bowling and fielding had to be aggressive. We used 5 bowlers, 2 of whom produced season best figures. The determination of the team in the field almost got them across the line. Bentley won on the last Ball of the innings
I know this was a loss but the determination and character the team showed in this defeat, was a credit to them all – They played a hard match against Bentley, but played fairly and with great sportsmanship.
I received an e-mail from the Bentley Manager the following day, confirming my thoughts, that the players and parents from both teams were superb - a real credit to both clubs. The Bentley manager said "It takes 2 teams to make it a great game – so your guys (some of course who I now know well from football) deserve an enormous amount of credit"
Players of note
Henry Deacon- Batting – his best performance of the season
Man of the Match – Jack Cooper
Ollie Cohen—Best bowling figures of the season 4 overs – 2 wickets – 4 runs
Will Davey— Best bowling figures of the season 4 overs – 1 wicket – 18 runs
WELL DONE TO ALL THE BOYS , AS THE OPPOSING MANAGER SAID YOU WERE ALL A CREDIT TO THE CLUB.
