U15 Chargers Complete Double

Captain Luke Brailey won the toss and decided to bat. The sun was shining and Luke was looking for Brentwood to put on a big score for Springfield to chase.
Will Buttleman and Luke Brailey opened the batting, but Luke was caught cold and was clean bowled in the first over. Daniel Stone was next in, who along with Buttleman soon started to get their shots away. Both boys batted with controlled aggression, hitting boundaries galore and it wasn’t long before the impressive Buttleman had reached his half century (25 balls) and with the competition rules, had to retire. Jack Payne was next into bat, joining Stone, both looking to keep the 10 an over run rate going. When Stone was on 48, knowing he was about to be retired, he looked to come down the crease and hit the ball out of the ground but missed and was stumped. It was another fast invaluable innings for Brentwood. Dan Peakall came into bat next and it wasn’t long before he and Jack had the run rate back up, both playing an aggressive style, really looking to put a big score on, until Payne was caught in the deep for 23. Arun Gautham joined the fray and was looking to get his shots off straight away. At the start of the last over Peakall needed 10 more runs to make his half century, with a 6 and a 4 off the first two balls, he also had to be retired, hitting 51 runs from 25 balls. Next in was Andrew Walters and between him and Gautham, they managed to keep the runs flowing, making a total of 18 runs from the last over. Brentwood finished 197 for 4 from their 20 overs.
After the break, Springfield came out knowing they had a daunting total to chase down. Brentwood captain Luke Brailey decided to start the bowling with spin, in the form of Jack Payne, who along with pace from Dan Stone, stopped Springfield from getting off to a fast start. In the third over Springfield, struggling to get the scoreboard moving, went for a risky run and their opener Harvey was run out. In the fourth over the other opener nicked a ball from Stone, which was duly caught by Peakall behind the stumps. First change bowlers were Luke Brailey and Alex Berry. Both bowled impressively with Brailey taking a wicket in his first over. Berry taking 2 wickets in his 3 over spell, with the batsman struggling against him, he finished on figures of 3:0:2:3. By the halfway mark Springfield were being strangled, they were 5 wickets down with only 45 runs on the board, only for James Jensen and Toby Gifford to start their spells of bowling. Both boys troubled the batsman with their spin, with Jensen taking 3 wickets, (including an exceptional catch from Payne and Gifford taking 2 wickets. Springfield limped along to the 19th over until they we all out, but only managed to get to 82 runs, well short what was required.
Springfield are a good team, but on the day Brentwood were too powerful and blew them away. This means Brentwood U15’s retained the Cup they won last year and they also won the league this year without losing a game.
