Walford hits unbeaten 95 in 1st team run chase; hundreds for Maxwells in 2nds and 4ths

Jon Walford led a successful Brentwood run chase as they completed a league double over last season’s champions Chingford at the Old County Ground. Batting first, Chingford got off to a very good start but after Jack Potticary was dismissed for 20 by Jake Wickham, the innings gradually lost momentum. Wickets fell at regular intervals but Chingford were held together by opener Alfie Taylor who made a superb 109 in a total of 233-8 in 50 overs. Ian Belchamber was the most successful bowler with 2-41 and there was a wicket apiece for Tom Moore, Wickham, Peter Younghusband, and Charlie Griffiths, while some outstanding fielding from Younghusband resulted in two run outs.

The Brentwood reply saw an early wicket, Guy Balmford dismissed for 4. Griffiths made a quick 22 but after he and Tom Oakley (20) were out, the innings needed stabilising. The stability was provided by Walford who looked in good form from the start and he was supported by skipper Aaron West. West contributed 33 and Younghusband made 27 to take his team to the brink of victory before he was caught and bowled by Ben Macgregor. Tom Moore (20 not out) then came in and finished the job with two towering sixes, Walford ending 95 not out. For the full scorecard on Play-Cricket go to the following link:

The 2nd XI won by 38 runs at Chingford to maintain their position at the top of the 2nd XI Premier Division. They have won eleven and drawn one of their twelve league matches this season. Dougie Maxwell was again in good form hitting 115 and there were more runs for Matt Bell who made 76 in a 45-over Brentwood total of 263-5. The Chingford top order gave their side a chance of victory with James Hill (56) and Alex Agedah (80 not out) top-scoring, but the lower order fell away and they finished on 225-8, Richard Horswill returning figures of 4-23 and Chris Boon Sr. 3-28. For the full scorecard on Play-Cricket go to the following link:

The 3rd XI were beaten by just one wicket at Harlow. They were dismissed for 169, Dave Balroop (49), Nigel Bacon (35), Joe Philpott (29) and Ewan Smith (22 not out) the main run-scorers. Balroop (2-69) and Sonny Willis (2-15) bowled well and there was a wicket too for Joe Fryd in his first game for eight years! And veteran Merwyn Emmanuel also picked up a wicket! For the full scorecard on Play-Cricket go to the following link:

The 4th XI drew with Harlow and Andy Maxwell made it a good day for the Maxwell family, scoring 139 not out in Brentwood’s run chase. But it was in vain as the total of 225-5 was not enough to overhaul Harlow’s 266 all out. It was a good effort by a young Brentwood side against the league leaders. Jonty Peacock produced career best bowling figures of 5-52. For the full scorecard on Play-Cricket go to the following link:
