West and Younghusband lead recovery in important win for 1st XI

The 1st XI maintained their one point lead in the Shepherd Neame Premier Division with a six-wicket win at bottom -of -the-table Harold Wood. It looked like there could be a shock result when Brentwood were reduced to 29-4 as they began their reply to the home side’s 171 all out, but an unbroken stand of 145 between Aaron West (61 not out) and Peter Younghusband (83 not out) saw their team to a vital win.
Earlier, the Brentwood attack had made steady inroads into the Harold Wood batting with opening bowlers Tom Moore and Jake Wickham taking three early wickets between them, aided by two outstanding slip catches by Younghusband. When Charlie Griffiths joined the attack he claimed 4-28 in 17.3 overs with Younghusband taking two wickets and Wickham finishing with 3-29 from 18 overs. For Harold Wood, Shahbaz Khan top scored with 60 and former Brentwood youngster Kristen Ali made 36 not out.
The next fixture for the 1st XI is at home to third-placed Wanstead & Snaresbrook on Saturday 22nd August.
